Flash 5 Cartoons and Games f/x and Design

Flash 5 Cartoons and Games f/x and Design

"Flash 5 Cartoons and Games f/x and Design"
Coriolis Group Books | ISBN: 1576109585 | February 27, 2001 | 368 pages | PDF | 30MB

There was a time when making an animated film meant, at the very least, a huge investment in time and equipment. Flash 5 Cartoons and Games demonstrates how things have changed, teaching a new generation of animators that all you really need is an ordinary PC or Mac and Macromedia's Flash authoring program.

Diverse and powerful, Flash can be used to create Web sites and multimedia presentations. Animation is an art in itself, and the book approaches the use of Flash from an animator's and game designer's perspective. Eleven chapters describe a production workflow, from early story development to using Flash to create a storyboard, adding sound, creating elements and movement, and creating backgrounds.

There are a number of outstanding features to this book: for one, it doesn't focus on the technology. There is as much information on using Flash as there is in composing a scene, using color and sound to evoke a mood, and using quick sketches for storyboard timing. Also, there is a strong emphasis on character animation. Chapter 5 is, in fact, called "Character Animation," followed by chapter 6, "Lip Syncing and Facial Expressions." These sections and others throughout the book show how to use Flash features like reusable symbols and libraries to create believable characters.

A little more than half the book focuses on animation. The second half covers game design, programming, and animation, with an emphasis on trivia and adventure games. You'll need to know a bit about Web scripting and how Flash scripting works to get the most out of the material.

ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide, Second Edition

Updated to cover Flash MX, the newest version of Macromedia Flash, ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide, Second Edition is the one book no serious Flash developer should be without. ActionScript is Macromedia's programming language for Flash MX, the popular authoring tool for creating rich internet applications and animations for the Web. With Macromedia's new focus on application development, ActionScript now includes a direct drawing API, loading of external MP3 and JPG files, improved sound control, an extensive set of text formatting tools, complete support for component development using movie clip subclasses, local data storage, accessibility features, and much more. And ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide is the most complete, up-to-date reference available for the latest version of this language.

Author Colin Moock, one of the most universally respected developers in the Flash community, has added hundreds of new code examples to show new Flash MX techniques in the real world: how to draw circles, save data to disk, convert arrays to onscreen tables, create reusable components, and preload variables, XML, and sounds. The book's language reference alone has nearly doubled from the first edition, with more than 250 new classes, objects, methods, and properties. You'll find exhaustive coverage of dozens of undocumented, under-documented, and mis-documented features. Along with the new material, Colin Moock has meticulously revised the entire text to conform to Flash MX best-coding practices. In particular, objected-oriented programming and the new event model get special attention in light of changes to Flash MX ActionScript. From sending data between two movies to creating getter/setter properties, the new edition of this book demystifies the often-confusing new features of Flash MX, giving developers easy access to its powerful new capabilities. ActionScript for Flash MX: The Definitive Guide is structured so non-programmers can learn how to use ActionScript and programmers can take their skills to new heights. If you are in the market to really learn about the hows and whys of ActionScript, then this is the book for you.

Pro Windows PowerShell

Pro Windows PowerShell

ISBN: 9781590599402 - 1590599403
Paperback: 493 pages
Data: February 15, 2008
Format: PDF
Description: Windows power users have always envied their friends running UNIX machines for the ease of automation that they enjoy. The traditional Windows command–line shell, cmd.exe, has never been up to par with shells like bash or tcsh, especially when it comes to text processing and process automation.

Windows PowerShell changes all that. This next–generation shell is also a full–blown scripting environment with a real programming language that allows users to access every part of their operating system. Files, registry entries, and COM and .NET objects are all supported by PowerShell, which makes manipulating them a breeze.

Pro Windows PowerShell will show you how to use all this power in your own work. You’ll discover the object–oriented features of the shell and how they help in extracting and manipulating data. You’ll then learn how to use those features to solve real–world problems: manipulating files, working with text, monitoring systems, and performing operations over the network. The book serves as not only a tutorial, but also a reference: the “Real World” part is structured so that it can be read nonlinearly and used as a reference or a cookbook. And you’ll find freely available tools and extensions that will help you do things even faster.

The ASP.NET 2.0 Anthology Sep 2007

The ASP.NET 2.0 Anthology Sep 2007 | 8.3 MB
This is the book I wish I had when I was starting out with ASP.NET. Now, if you’d be so kind as to hop into a time machine, go back five years, and give me a copy, I’d be eternally grateful.

What’s that? Time machines haven’t been invented yet? Drat. I guess we’re stuck in the here and now.
Many ASP.NET books try to be complete, exhaustive references. They’re dense, fat books with an inflated sense of self-importance—books that take up lots of room on your bookshelf. But who actually reads these giant tomes of universal knowledge? Even if you could read one cover to cover, would it really be complete or exhaustive? The .NET framework is vast. As much as I’ve learned, I still discover new features of ASP.NET and the .NET Framework on a daily basis. And the platform itself is still actively evolving and growing. .NET 3.0 is already here, and .NET 3.5 is on the horizon.

This book is different from the rest. It doesn’t pretend to be a complete reference. It won’t waste your time with hundreds of pages on every obscure feature of ASP.NET. And it won’t insult your intelligence by suggesting that it contains every last detail of ASP.NET.
Instead, this book will be your native guide to the ASP.NET jungle. As its authors, we’ll share with you our cumulative experience in building ASP.NET sites large and small, commercial and open source, and all flavors in between. We’re seasoned veterans with more than our share of scars, bumps, and bruises. We’ll show you the most practical features, the best approaches, the useful features that are off the beaten path—in short, the stuff that matters. We absolutely, positively promise not to bore you with the same tired old tourist attractions that everyone else gets herded through.
Each chapter of this book is laid out in a problem–solution format. We’ll start with a common problem that an intermediate ASP.NET developer may face, then provide a concise solution to that problem. In some cases, when the topic warrants it, we’ll include a brief discussion of the solution to provide context.
We’ve grouped the chapters of this book to cover major areas of ASP.NET functionality. Inside, you’ll find solutions to the most common challenges that ASP.NET developers face—at least in our experience.

Linux Debugging And Performance Tuning

456 pages | 2005-10-20 | CHM | 17 Mb

Linux Debugging and Performance Tuning is not a book to sit down and read from cover to cover. It makes for a great reference book, and a handy guide to educating oneself on various Linux debugging and performance tuning tricks and tips.

The stated audience is "people developing or supporting Linux applications/kernels". As a system administrator, this is where my interest (and biases) show.

The book jumps in head first without a true intro to the subject of the first chapter (profiling). This style is consistent throughout the book which prevents this book from being a helpful tutorial, step by step guide, or classroom ready book towards learning debugging/performance tuning (sadly, as this subject could benefit from developers/administrators being firmly educated in these processes). Additionally a lot of space seems wasted on screen shots and sample code that doesn't contribute to the learning process. That said, the book does cover many useful and less well known tools. If you are looking for a reference book to assist in learning more about the arcane (and senior) skills of debugging and performance tuning, this would be a good choice. It doesn't go into great depths, so can be perceived as an introductory guide. It's less of a guide and more of an introduction that will assist a medium experienced administrator to obtaining useful search terms.

Insider Attack and Cyber Security Beyond the Hacker

Description

Hackers, especially "terrorist hackers" or "cyberwar hackers" get lots of press. They do indeed pose a serious problem. However, the threat they pose pales be- fore that posed by those closest to us: the insiders. The cyberthreat posed by insiders isn’t new. Donn Parker’s seminal 1978 book Crime by Computer estimated that 95% of computer attacks were committed by authorized users of the system. Admittedly, this was in the pre-Internet era, when very few non-insiders had any access at all; still, the underlying issue – that em- ployees are not always trustable – remains. To be sure, this has always been true – thieving or otherwise corrupt workers have undoubtedly existed since commerce itself – but the power of computers (and our inability to secure them in the best of circumstances) makes the problem far worse today. In June 2007, a workshop (sponsored by Cliff Wang of the Army Research Of- fice) on the insider threat was held. Approximately 35 invitees attended, including security
researchers, vendors, practitioners, and representatives of organizations that perceive a serious insider threat. The goal was to develop a research commu-nity on the insider threat. Of necessity, our first steps were to understand the scope of the problem, to develop a common vocabulary, and to start sketching a research agenda. This volume consists of papers contributed by some of those at-tendees.
Types of Attack
Fundamentally, there are three different types of attack: misuse of access, defense bypass, and access control failure. Each must be approached differently. *PDF*http://rapidshare.com/files/153295455/Insider_Att_-_ack_and_Cy__ber_Security_Be_-_yond_the_Ha_-_cker.rar
